Imo state Deputy Governor Jude Agbaso resigns

The Deputy Governor of Imo State Chief Jude Agbaso has officially tendered his resignation letter as Deputy Governor of the state.

Agbaso’s resignation came even as the State House of Assembly members have perfected plans to impeach him. The House had last week served an impeachment notice on the deputy governor who is said to have fallen out of favour with Governor Rochas Okorocha.

The resignation of the deputy governor has confirmed speculations that all has not been well in the state executive leadership and would obviously increase the number of people fighting against the administration of Rochas Okorocha who many have come to know as an emperor for the abrasive manner of his leadership.

It would be recalled that Rochas was given the governorship ticket of All Progreesive Grand Alliance APGA in 2011 after he was alleged to have paid off Chief Martin Agbaso, the elder brother of the deputy governor who was the party’s flag- bearer in 2007 and was known to be the leaders of the party in Imo State.

Apart from paying heavily to buy APGA ticket from Agbaso, Rochas was made to accept to have Jude as his deputy, a condition he accepted without hesitation. Political pundits had predicted then that the marriage with the Agbasos would be very brief.

With Agbaso’s resignation, there is every likelihood that Jude and his elder brother Martin would severe relationship with the APGA faction that is loyal to Rochas and move into the other camp controlled by Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State. This however may not work after all, because Martin Agbaso and Peter Obi do not like to see each other eyeball to eyeball.

Whatever may be the case, the camp f the opposition in Imo State led by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would certainly swell as strategies are being mapped out for 2015 showdown.
