Cameroon striker Samuel Eto’o returns for World Cup qualifying clash with Togo

The Anzhi Makhachkala striker returns to the Indomitable Lions fold for their World Cup qualifying clash against Togo amid rift with the football federation.

Cameroon coach Jean-Paul Akono has named his squad for the 2014 Fifa World Cup qualifier against Togo on March 23 in Yaounde, with Samuel Eto’o surprisingly included after he accused the football federation of plots to assassinate him.

The coach refused to take questions on the issue while announcing the list, saying his responsibility was to lead his side to the encounter and not to talk about quarrels.

The Cameroon Football Federation (Fecafoot) has denied the existence of such plots and described the accusations from the four-time African Footballer of the Year as baseless.

Caf president Issa Hayato, who is also a Cameroonian, said in an interview last week he couldn’t figure out why officials of Fecafoot would want to harm the player.

Aurelien Chedjou of French club Lille, Queens Park Rangers midfielder Stephane Mbia and Thailand based Mbuta Andogcho were also invited.

Cameroon are third in Group I with three points while Togo sit at the bottom with one point.
