"Stay off Ikorodu road" - Lagos warns FERMA

Lagos State Government on Wednesday advised the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) to remove Ikorodu road from its planned rehabilitation of federal roads in the state.

A statement by Biola Fagunwa, Spokesman, Lagos State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, said the planned rehabilitation could be construed as a duplication of effort and a waste of resources.

The statement said that the state government had already commenced the reconstruction and maintenance of the road. "The state government applied for and had taken over the maintenance and rehabilitation of Ikorodu road, not only to ensure its improvement but to also upgrade its facilities in the light of the realities of the policies that the state government had given priority attention," it said.

The statement further noted that the inauguration of the BRT LITE scheme along the corridor from Mile 12 to Jibowu had seen the state government taking over the responsibilities of reconstruction and maintenance along the road.

It listed other efforts of the state government on the road to include construction of dedicated BRT lanes from Jibowu to Mile 12; rehabilitation of both sides of the service lane; and the gully grating and replacement of 89 manhole covers.

These projects, according to the statement, were undertaken by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA).
