Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech sidelined for 3 weeks with groin injury

Chelsea will be without goalkeeper Petr Cech for up to three weeks due to a groin injury.

Cech started Sunday’s win over Everton but failed to return to the pitch in the second half and was once again absent as the Blues went down 1-0 to QPR at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.

A subsequent scan confirmed he had suffered a groin injury and the 30-year-old will now spend at least three weeks on the sidelines.

“Two or three weeks. We are quite optimistic,” manager Rafael Benitez tweeted.

Cech is set to miss the FA Cup clash with Southampton as well as the Capital One League Cup semi-final first leg against Swansea. The injury could also see him sit out the Premier League matches against Stoke and Arsenal with Ross Turnbull set to continue in goal for the Blues.
