The Rochas Okorocha-led Imo state government announced on Thursday it was finalizing plans to probe ousted governor, Ikedi Ohakim, accused by the government of stealing billions of naira.

The incumbent governor, and his predecessor, Mr. Ohakim, have been embroiled in prolonged political wrangling after Mr. Ohakim lost a reelection in 2011.

Mr. Okorocha booted out local government heads appointed under the Ohakim administration sparking series of court battles.


On Thursday, the secretary to the new government, Anthony Anwuka, said at a news briefing there were clear evidences Mr. Ohakim, a member of the People’s Democratic Party, siphoned state funds.

He said that the Okorocha administration has also cleared all the debt it inherited from Mr. Ohakim but refused to state how much was involved.

“The administration is perfecting plans for the probe and it would commence soon,” Mr. Anwuka said.

The secretary said that the State Government had in the past one year, performed well in various sectors.

He assured that most of the road projects being executed in the state would be completed by December this year.
