BREAKING NEWS: Connecticut school shooting leaves 27 dead; including 18 children!

As many as 27 people are dead after a shooting at an elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut.

At least 18 children were among those killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School, according to AP, which cited an unidentified official with knowledge of the situation. The shooter is dead and had two guns, the AP said. CNN said the shooter’s body was found in a classroom, and a witness said 100 rounds were heard from the hallway.

“I heard like seven loud booms,” said one unidentified girl interviewed by NBC News outside the school. “We didn’t scream. We started crying.”

The AP reported that the attacker is a 20-year-old man, and reported that a law enforcement official in Washington said that one gun used in the attacks is a .223-caliber rifle. The official also said New Jersey state police are searching a location in connection with the shootings.

The official spoke to AP on the condition of anonymity because the source was not authorized to speak on the record about the developing investigation.

Many of the killings took place in a kindergarten class, according to the Hartford Courant. One entire classroom is unaccounted for outside the school.

The town is 65 miles (105 kilometers) northeast of New York City.
