22-year-old woman arrested over killing of debtor/boyfriend

The State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba, Lagos State, has arrested a 22-year-old woman and thugs she allegedly sent to beat up her boyfriend, only for them to end up killing him in his apartment at 91, Arobadade Street, Bariga.

Also arrested alongside the woman, identified as Tawa Rawan, were Joshua Damilola, Akintude Sodiq, and 17-year-old Ismaila Riliwan.

According to the police, the deceased, Ganiu Akeem, slapped Rawan during a quarrel and also made away with the her proceeds of her bread.

She told operatives that she hired the services of four men to help retrieve her money from Akeem, stating that she did not send them to kill him. She however, admitted to have been in a relationship with the deceased.

“I swear I did not send them to kill him. I only said they should beat him and also collect my money from him, only to hear later that he was killed in the process. Had I known I would have left everything to God,” said the Oyo State-born bread seller.

Asked why Ganiu was killed, one of the suspects, Damilola said, “We didn’t intend to kill him. We were there to ask him why he beat up the woman. Instead of responding, he grabbed a bottle by the corner of his room, smashed it on the wall and stabbed me.”
