2 Fulani herdsmen arraigned for killing Police sergeant in Enugu

An Oji River Magistrate’s Court in Enugu State on Tuesday remanded in prison custody two Fulani herdsmen for killing a Police sergeant attached to Oji River Police Division.

The accused persons: Mohammed Shehu and Abu Abubaka were arraigned before Magistrate A. N. Edeani on a three- count charge of conspiracy, armed robbery and murder.

They were said to have murdered Police Sergeant Obla Eni attached to Oji River Police Division on May 23, this year.



The three-count charge against the two accused persons reads thus:
 

“That you Mohammed Shehu, Abu Abubaka and others now at large on May23, 2012 at Okwe Junction, Oji River Magisterial District, did conspire among yourselves to commit felony to wit: armed robbery and thereby, committed an offence contrary to Section 6(b) of the Armed Robbery and Firearms (Special Provision) Act Cap R11 and punishable under Section 1(2) (a)(b) of the Armed Robbery and Firearm Laws of Federation of Nigeria 2004”.

“That you Mohammed Shehu, Abu Abubaka and others now at large on the same date, time and place in the aforesaid magisterial district while armed yourselves with guns did rob motorists of their GSM phones and monies (N187, 500.00) and thereby, committed an offence punishable under Section 1 (2) (a)(b) of the Armed Robbery and Firearm Laws of Federation of Nigeria 2004”.
 

“That you Mohammed Shehu, Abu Abubaka and others now at large on the same date, time and place in the aforesaid while robbing did kill F/NO
198100 Sgt Obla Eni attached to Oji River police division Enugu and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 274 (1) of the Criminal Code Cap 30 Vol. 11 laws of Enugu state of Nigeria 2004”.

The three-count charge was read and interpreted in Hausa language to the accused to which they pleaded not guilty.
