PHOTOS: Armed robbers laid siege on Auchi, Edo State; ...3 soldiers & 7 others killed


Details gathered from Auchi, Edo State, have revealed that not less than 10 people lost their lives to the Monday night robbery attack that occurred in the town.

This is just as the Chief Medical Director, Auchi Central Hospital, Dr Jude Omoregie, confirmed to journalists that bodies of three soldiers were brought to the hospital.

The attack, which was said to have lasted for about three hours, sent jitters down the spines of residents of the town, as many of them were still afraid of coming out of their homes when the Nigerian Tribune visited on Tuesday morning.

According to residents of the town, not less than 10 dead bodies were recovered, mainly on the Igarra-Jattu Road. They said scores of people were also wounded, as many were receiving treatment at the Auchi Central Hospital and other hospitals in the town.

Dr Omoregie told reporters that the hospital was able to save one Khadijat Musa, a 16-year-old girl from Kogi State, who was rushed to the hospital, though the commercial motorcyclist who carried her was killed.

The robbers, numbering about 50, according to eye witnesses, were said to have stormed the area in three Camry cars and a bus and immediately headed to the Auchi Divisional Police Headquarters and the Police Area Command in Auchi, where they blew up the buildings with dynamites and bombs.

Several vehicles including police patrol vans, Armoured Personnel Carriers (APC) within the Area Command and Auchi Division office were set ablaze.
