EFCC vs Lagos Speaker, Adeyemi Ikuforiji Latest: EFCC fails to appear in court AGAIN!

For the second time in two weeks, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, failed to appear in court to continue the trial of the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Adeyemi Ikuforiji.

Mr. Ikuforiji and his aide, Oyebode Atoyebi, are facing trial over an alleged money laundering of 501 MILLION NAIRA.

The counsel to the EFCC, Godwin Obla, who was absent in court, Tuesday, stated that he was misinformed of the actual date of the trial.

Represented by Olusola Folarin, Mr. Obla said that the court registrar informed him that the trial was scheduled for November 22.

“That is why he could not leave Abuja to arrive Lagos yesterday,” Ms. Folarin said.

The EFCC sought for an adjournment.

The presiding judge, Okechukwu Okeke, said that he did not believe the EFCC’s story. The judge asked Ms. Folarin to read to the court a letter purportedly written by the prosecution noting November 20 as the adjourned date for trial.

Counsel to Mr. Ikuforiji, Taye Oyetibo, came to the EFCC’s defence, as he did at the last sitting, stating that Mr. Obla had informed him, via phone, of his inability to attend Tuesday’s proceedings.

Mr. Okechukwu adjourned till December 17 for continuation of trial.

At the last sitting on November 6, the EFCC counsel had also been absent in court “on grounds of ill health.”
