Bride-to-be electrocuted in Surulere, Lagos

Preparations for the holy wedlock of 32-year-old lady simply identified as Akunna, who lived at 20, Dayo Ojutiku Street, Surulere, Lagos, was dashed last Saturday, when she was pronounced dead at Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) after being electrocuted in her house.

The wedding was already fixed for December.

Akunna, who undoubtedly must have been dreaming of how to ensure a hitch-free holy matrimony, had invited her friend, Amaka to her house over the weekend to rub minds on how to procure those materials needed for the wedding, as prices were likely to soar in December.

Akunna and Amaka had gone to the market to get the current prices of things and also bought some items to cook for the weekend.

There was heavy rainfall that day and rain had created some potholes around the house. Amaka had attempted to cross the pool of water but her leg slipped and she fell. Her scream attracted Akunna, who rushed out of the kitchen to rescue her friend.

Unfortunately for Akunna, an antenna pole was exposed to electricity and she was electrocuted.

Sympathisers, who in an attempt to save her, used an iron to hit her and detach her from the pole, realized they were using a wrong object to free her. They were equally being dragged by the force of the electricity through the iron and they dropped the iron, used a plank to hit Akunna, till she fell from the pole.

She was rushed to a nearby hospital but was rejected. She was later taken to LUTH where she was later confirmed dead.
