Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas denies rift with striker Emmanuel Adebayor

Andre Villas-Boas has denied suggestions Emmanuel Adebayor is looking to leave Tottenham in January.

After an impressive loan spell at White Hart Lane, in which he scored 17 goals, Adebayor sealed a permanent move to Tottenham in the summer, but he has grown frustrated at the amount of time he has spent on the bench.

Indeed, he has been restricted to just four appearances as a substitute, which resulted in reports linking the Togo international with a January exit.

Although he has favoured Jermain Defoe this season, Villas-Boas insists he will not be selling Adebayor when the transfer window opens.

“No I don’t think so. I don’t think the club will be willing to let anyone go in January,” Adebayor told Sky Sports News.

“Every player wants to play. At the moment we have been using a structure of one striker and Defoe has been doing extremely well.

“Ade in the games he has come on in has done well. He is in contention for when we play two strikers. We have not found comfort in that formation yet. When we use it and rotate the strikers, he will be in contention.”
