NDLEA arrests 23-year-old drug baron in Akwa Ibom

Ruth Obi, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency's (NDLEA) Commander in Akwa Ibom State, has announced the arrest of Martins Okon, a 23-year-old suspected drug baron.

Obi, who disclosed this to journalists in Uyo on Tuesday, said that four other suspects, Sunday Ibanga (44) Okokon Ekong (33), Daniel Ekpong (43), and Emem Ekong (39) were also arrested.

Okon had been on the agency’s wanted list for some time. "When we raided his residence at 115 Nwaniba Road, Uyo, he jumped out through the window with two briefcases,” the NDLEA chief said.

"We suspected that the briefcases could be exhibits. His room happened to be the only room in the house without a burglarproof, which means he kept it open as an escape route.

“The officers went into his room and discovered kits of drugs as well as empty bullet shells.” She added that when Okon was interrogated, he alleged that the three bullet shells picked from his room were the shells of the bullets used for the assassination of his father.

Obi said that Okon and the other suspected drug dealers would be charged to court as soon as investigation was concluded.
