Aston Villa desperate to sell out-of-favour Darren Bent

Aston Villa are ready to sell out-of-favour Darren Bent this January transfer window.

According to The People, Villa are hoping to offload their star striker as his feud with new manager Paul Lambert escalates.

The England striker, Villa’s record £24million signing, was first handed the captaincy upon Lambert’s arrival in the summer but was quickly stripped of it and has since been dropped from the starting line-up for the last few matches.

Bent’s Villa career looks all but over with Lambert bringing in Christian Benteke, 21, from Genk in the summer and he appears to be the preferred strike partner for Gabby Agbonlahor.

The former Tottenham and Sunderland man’s availability will alert Liverpool and QPR who are both believed to be desperate to boost their striking options in January.

Villa chairman Randy Lerner will be looking to recoup at least half the outlay on Bent to ease the club’s financial worries.
