20 feared dead in multiple bomb explosions in Mubi, Adamawa State

Twenty people are feared dead after multiple bomb explosions rocked Mubi town, Adamawa State, Wednesday.

Mubi was the scene of a massacre of 46 students of tertiary institutions by unknown gunmen a fortnight ago.

The explosions, according to police sources, caused extensive damage to lives and property.


According to an eyewitness, the explosion, which targeted a patrol vehicle of the Joint Military Task Force (JTF) maintaining peace in the town, occurred at a popular market, ‘Kasuwan Kuturu’, some meters to the general hospital.

The multiple explosions, which began in the morning, continued into late afternoon, left scores of people injured.

The death toll had not been ascertained even as the Adamawa Police command confirmed the incident. 

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP, Mohammed Ibrahim, declined comments on the death toll, saying he was still awaiting adequate report from the Mubi Area Command. He added that security chiefs in the state were holding a meeting on the issue.

However, eyewitness told our newsmen that about 20 persons were rushed to the Mubi General Hospital but could not ascertain if they were dead or alive.

Wednesdays and Thursdays are normally the designated ‘market day’ at the Mubi international cattle market, which often attract marketers from across the country and the neighbouring countries of Cameroun, Chad, Sudan and Central African Republic.
