Ondo State Governorship Election: INEC releases voters register

Independent National Electoral Commission on Thursday presented soft copies of registered voters in Ondo State to the 13 political parties for the October 20 governorship election.

The document contained the list and particulars of 1,654,205 registered voters.

The agency said it acted in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended) which stipulates that lists of registered voters be published, 30 days before election.

Presenting the copies to members of the public at a forum in Akure, INEC Director of Voter Registry, Mr. Emmanuel Akem, explained that 1, 646,666 people were registered for the April 2011 election.

He said 7,539 voters, made up of those who had been registered but could not vote last year because of certain technical hitches and those who transferred their voter cards, had been added in the register.

While analysing details of the information contained in the register, Akem said female voters constitute 50.20 per cent while 49.80 percent of the entire voters are male.
