Ondo State Governorship Election: "ACN is planning to rig the election!" - LP

Mimiko Campaign Organisation has alleged that the Action Congress of Nigeria is planning to rig the October 20 Ondo State governorship election in connivance with some Independent National Electoral Commission officials.

The MCO, in a statement by the Director of Media and Publicity, Mr. Kolawole Olabisi, on Wednesday, called on the INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, to investigate the allegation.

The organisation asked Jega to monitor the activities of the commission’s officials it alleged had been working with the ACN.

Olabisi said, “Since it has dawned on the opposition that they would lose their deposits and fail woefully in a free and fair election, they have resorted to underhand tactics.”

But the Director of Publicity of the Independent Campaign Network, Mr. Bosun Oladimeji, told reporters in Akure that the ACN had no need to rig the election because of its acceptability and popularity among the Ondo electorate.

Oladimeji said, “The people of Ondo state are yearning for a change and thery have made up their minds to disgrace and reject the LP at the poll come October 20.

“The LP is the party in government and they are merely exposing their dubious plans towards this election but they will fail woefully because the ACN remains the strongest party in the state at the moment.”

However, Olabisi alleged that “officials of the commission recently met with some leaders of the ACN in Lagos to conclude their rigging plans for the election”.

He said, “As a follow -up to this, a meeting is to be held later this week in Dubai where a South-West, who is most vociferous in the unbridled ambition of his party in annexing Ondo State is already waiting to receive them as a corollary to the Ikoyi meeting.

“We want to commend the efforts of the Prof. Attahiru Jega-led INEC in emplacing a credible election in Nigeria and we salute INEC for the Edo State election and we are optimistic that the (Ondo) election will be free and fair.”
