Man arraigned for raping his 12-year-old daughter!

A middle-aged man, Tajudeen Atowoatomo, has been arraigned before an Osogbo Magistrate’s Court over for allegedly raping his 12-year-old daughter (name withheld).

The charge sheet obtained on Monday stated that Atowoatomo allegedly raped his daughter at Eesa compound in Ikirun, the headquarters of Ifelodun Local Government Area on September 16, 2012, at about 1am.

Police prosecutor, Elisha Olusegun, said the offence contravened Section 218 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Laws of Osun State 2003.

But the accused pleaded not guilty when his plea was taken.

His counsel, Mrs. Nnenna Ugwu, urged the court to grant him bail and assured that Atomoatomo would not evade judicial trial if granted bail.

She added that the accused was ready to provide credible sureties.

The Magistrate, Mr. Adewunmi Makanjuola, granted the accused bail in the sum of N500,000 and ordered him to present two sureties.

Makanjuola subsequently transferred the case to Ikirun Magistrate’s Court for further hearing, saying his court should not entertain the case when there is a competent court in Ikirun.
