LAUTECH Teaching Hospital sets up drug production unit to produce 75% of its drugs need

The Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital, Osogbo, has set up a drug production unit to produce 75 per cent of its drugs need.

Dr Benjamin Egunranti, the Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee of the hospital told newsmen in Osogbo, that the factory was established to ensure that only authentic drugs were issued to patients.

He said that the factory would have a quality assurance unit to ensure that all drugs produced conform to standard.

“A lot of new machines had been installed, while all categories of workers needed had been mobilised in readiness for the eventual take-off of the factory.

“What we are waiting for is the mandatory inspection of the unit by the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control and the Pharmaceutical Council of Nigeria.

“When the factory is fully operational, it is going to benefit the whole of the South-West by making quality drugs available locally for use of hospitals,” Egunranti said.

He said that the management had deployed experts, especially pharmacists, to work in the new unit. (NAN)
