Boko Haram kills Borno State Attorney-General & Commissioner for Justice

Borno State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Honourable Zannah Mallam Gana, was gunned down on Monday by gunmen suspected to be members of the Jamaatul Ahlis Sunnnah lidaawa wal Jihad, popularly known as Boko Haram, in his home town, Bama, headquarters of Bama Local Government area of the state.

It was gathered that the gunmen came at about 7.45 p.m. and met him in company of his friends and relations before they opened fire and killed him instantly.

An eyewitness told newsmen that "the gunmen came on a motorcycle and opened fire on the late commissioner, who was seating with his friend after Magrib prayers".

He said "after firing several shots at the commissioner, they waited to make sure he was dead before fleeing the scene of the incident", adding that his friend, Mallam Ba’yerima, who fainted at the time the gunmen were shooting later regained his consciousness in the hospital, as he was not hit by bullets.

Confirming the incident, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Yuguda Abdukllahi, said Gana was gunned down on Monday in his home town, Bama, adding that he had since deployed men in Bama with a view to investigating the matter.
