Theo Walcott set to stay at Arsenal?

Theo Walcott looks set to stay with Arsenal after talks with manager Arsene Wenger resulted in an agreement he would not move during this transfer window.

However, the five-year-deal offered to the winger by the north London club remains unsigned and huge doubts persist over his long term future.

The England man rejected the contract, rumoured to be worth £75,000 a week, but following ‘verbal assurances’ given to the manager by Walcott, the club are convinced he wants to stay beyond the end of his current deal which finishes next summer.

The Gunners are believed to have been prepared to sell him following his rejection of their final offer last Friday, but after the 23-year-old reaffirmed his commitment to the club that position has now changed.

Further talks are planned in the weeks ahead, with both parties having made a commitment to work towards a resolution.

Manchester City are believed to be waiting in the wings and may yet test Arsenal’s resolve.
