Commercial motorcyclist (Okada Rider) bites Police officer on the chest while resisting arrest

Sanjo Somodiya, a commercial motorcyclist, appeared before a Somolu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos charged with assaulting a police officer.

Police Prosecutor, Adegoke Akinlebi, told the court, on Monday that the defendant, who resides at No. 42 Akinrinlo Street, Somolu, Lagos committed the offence on August 23.

Somodiya, who is facing a one-count charge of assault, however, pleaded not guilty.

Akinlebi said that Somodiya, assaulted police officer, CPL Jimoh Omiyi, and bit him on the chest, while resisting arrest following a raid at Akinrinlo junction, Somolu.

He said, "The accused was one of the many, who where smoking marijuana at the spot that night. The police caught him, and he attempted to free himself. He then assaulted the police officer, giving him a bite on his chest and tearing his shirt.''

According to the prosecutor, the offence violated Section 172 of the Criminal Code Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The Magistrate, Bola Osunsanmi, granted the defendant bail for N50,000 with one surety in like sum, and adjourned the case to September 21 for trial.
