30-year-old man fatally shot his 10-year-old son while testing bullet proof 'charm'

A 30-year-old old farmer, Ornguga Ademngor, was on Wednesday charged to a Makurdi Chief Magistrates' Court for allegedly killing his son.

The police prosecution officer, Gabriel Ebonyi, told the court that a police officer, Godwin Agande, attached to the Divisional Police Headquarters, Kwande, informed the State CID of the incident.

Agande said he received an information that the accused had used a single barrel gun to shoot his 10-year-old son on the leg and that the boy died instantly.


According to the prosecutor, the suspect had confessed to have applied some charms on the boy's leg to protect him against bullet wounds but that the efficacy of the charm failed during the test.

The prosecutor said the offence was contrary to Section 222 of the Penal Code of Benue 2004.

The plea of the accused was not taken for want of jurisdiction but Chief Magistrate Dan Ogo adjourned the matter to September 12, for further mention.
