10 people killed in Benue car crash
About 10 persons were feared dead in an auto crash involving a cement truck and a 14-seater bus belonging to the Benue Links Company, on the Gboko-Makurdi road, on Monday.
It was gathered that the the ill-fated bus, which took off from Gboko, in Benue State, was heading towards Kano when it was involved in an accident barely 30 minutes after taking off.
An eyewitness account state that the accident occured at Liambee village, very close to Wannune, the headquarters of Tarka Local Government Area, when the Kano-bound Benue Links bus had a head-on collision with the cement truck.
The sources claimed that 10 persons died on the spot, but the police in the state confirmed that four persons lost their lives in the accident.
The General Manager of the state-owned transport company (Benue Links), Mr John Baka, confirmed that one of the vehicles in their fleets convening passengers from Gboko to Kano had an accident but said only three persons died. He stated that he had sent a team to the scene to ascertain the correct situation.
