Subsidy Removal Protesters In Kaduna Ignore Police Threats!
Protesters in Kaduna State today ignored threats by the Police and went ahead with anti-fuel subsidy removal demonstrations.
In the city of Kaduna, a procession gathered at Lugard Round About near the Kaduna State House of Assembly. Scared legislators hid behind a thicket of armed police at the gate, fearing the unknown.
Addressing the crowd, Comrade Shehu Sani said, “This removal of fuel subsidy is unjust and irrational, it deliberate, to create chaos in Nigeria, and it is worse than the Boko Haram challenge. We cannot pay transportation, house rent and school fees and it is a way of oppressing Nigerians. We are telling them that on Monday they will see more than they are seeing (now). Every one that is here is a patriot, and there is no breakdown of law and order, it deliberating in breaking our country and forcing Christians and Muslims to fight.
We are all one and we will ensure that we are united. The security agencies should know that they are also affected, like we saw in Egypt and the rest of Arab countries, we will do it here. We and security are one and fighting for national development. Protest is constitutional and in the constitution. If the government wants to address petrol situation, let them fix our refineries like Niger Republic did.”
Also speaking, Barr. Tajudeen Oladoja, Coodinator of Occupy Nigeria in Kaduna, said “We are here organizing this protest in line with what is happening in other parts of Nigeria. We are coming out without recourse to religious, political or ethnic divide under one umbrella to challenge the illegality of President Jonathan for unlawfully removing fuel subsidy. This is not (of) our making but is draining blood from our veins, and we will not allow it to happen. We will fight with all energies at our disposal.
We are not going to be intimidated by security forces, we are appealing let us have peaceful protest, let’s not engage in acts of vandalism, we should not destroy public and private properties. And there is no religious coloration in this struggle: no ethnic or tribal biases in this struggle, an Igbo, Bajju, Hausa, Yoruba, Igala and Ijaw consume the same petroleum. On Monday we will empty our houses and will not leave the venue of protest until Jonathan removes this illegal policy.”
