Ekiti State To Sack And Prosecute 169 Local Government Workers For Forgery
The Ekiti State Local Government Service Commission has said it will sack 169 staff members and prosecute them afterwards for certificate forgery.
The council chairman, Aderemi Ajayi, made this known at a press conference in Ado-Ekiti on Monday. He said the affected workers were indicted for certificate forgery and some of them had already confessed that they presented forged certificates to the commission for employment.
Ajayi also disclosed that two workers that were discovered to have been receiving salaries at two stations would refund the overpayment and would also be dismissed from service. He said the report of the personnel audit conducted by a private consulting firm denied that 5,000 workers were sacked by the state government, pointing out that rather, a total of 1,951 workers were involved in false age declaration and certificate forgery.
According to him, the report recommended the immediate retirement of 336 workers allegedly found to have falsified their ages and length of service and also recommended that they be paid three months salary in lieu of notice.
He said 156 of the workers failed to turn up for the screening exercise, noting that those were taken to be “ghost workers” whose names had been expunged from the staff nominal roll of the local governments where they were discovered.
Ajayi said the disciplinary action is to serve as a deterrent to those who intend to indulge in fraud and other criminal acts in government service.
