SIM Card Registration Latest: New Registration Deadline Is December 31
* All SIM cards that have not been registered by the deadline will be disconnected
The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has finally stipulated a deadline for the registration of all SIM cards used on Nigerian telecommunication networks.
It will be recalled that the NCC had, at first, fixed the deadline for September 28, 2011 but postponed it due to complaints of registration difficulties. NCC has now disclosed that the new deadline for the registration is December 31, 2011. According to the Commission, it has already begun the collation and harmonisation of existing registered SIM cards from across the country. This means that by the first day of January 2012, all SIM cards that are not registered would cease to work automatically.
The Head of Media and Publicity of the NCC, Reuben Muoka, warned Nigerians that there would be no prior notification before disconnection by the first day of January 2012. He advised that holders of unregistered sim cards should comply with the requirement exercise or forfeit usage of their SIM cards.
