Lagos State Ready For Eyo Festival On Saturday 26th November 2011

Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State says the government is ready to stage the Adamu Orisha play, popularly known as Eyo Festival on Saturday.

The governor, who received members of the Eyo Ikolaba Ekun group in his office on Monday, said that many Nigerians in the diaspora were already ecstatic about attending the festival.According to him, a number of them were already booking their tickets in preparation to attend the carnival.

He reiterated that the Adamu Orisha play was a carnival and festival for Lagos which was designed by the founding fathers to celebrate and would remain so. The governor expressed optimism that the festival which, is being organized in memory of late Oba Yesusfu Oniru of Iruland would be more exciting and glamorous than the last one organised by the state government.

The ceremony featured the offering of special prayers for the governor, his family and members of the state executive council by the Eyo Okolaba group members who also chanted different traditional songs in their colourful outfits.

Prominent among the members of the state executive council who witnessed the ceremony were the Commissioner for Waterfront Infrastructure Development, Prince Adesegun Oniru who is a grandson of late Oba Yesufu Oniru in whose memory the Eyo is being staged, Commissioner for Tourism, Mr. Disu Holloway and others.

    Hi Tope, i just read your article and I have need to clarify some concerns with you. There is an event holding at one of the beaches in Lekki on Saturday, the very day of the Eyo festival. Will people coming from the mainland be allowed to move in their cars over to Lekki say around 4pm? they do not have to use the major route which is TBS but if they were to use any other route lije say carter bridge or the Alfred Rewane route, would that be okay without causing harm to the individuals or does it mean the event needs to be cancelled?

    Please i would truly appreciate your comments soonest. Would not want to risk people's lives on that day.

    You can use the 3rd mainland bridge to link victoria island, then lekki. the festival will take place @ TBS and mostly the lagos island, so most of the roads in and linking to lagos island might be closed and might affect carter bridge.

    But 3rd mainland brigde and victoria island will be free as the event is taking place on lagos island.

    @Nduduisi, movement will not be restricted as the sanitation is cancelled due to the eyo festival.

    Pls, I stay in Ikoyi and i would like to go to Yaba on that day, i heard there shall be no movement. is that true?

    @Amaka, to the best of my knowledge there will be movement in most part of lagos except lagos island (not victoria island) and roads leading to TBS.
