Three people killed in Lagos Flood

A 35-year-old man, Nurudeen Opeyemi, and two other persons, including the youth leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) popularly known as Nasiru were swept away by flood in Agbado, Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area of Lagos State, following the rain that fell on Monday.

It was learnt that Opeyemi missed his step while trying to cross a trench and fell into the flood while Nasiru fell from his motorcycle and got drowned. The identity of the third person could not be ascertained as of the time of filing this report.

Commenting on the issue, Mrs Idowu Dada, a resident in the area, said  pictures had been sent to the state government to show the extent of the damage done by the rain and to solicit for prompt action. However, some youths in the area had vowed to disrupt the forthcoming election in the area if the state government failed to address the recurring flood in the community.

The Supervisor for Works, Agbado, Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area, Mr Aderemi Adeyemo, said the council would move in to assess the level of damage to properties and loss of lives. He said, “we will move in to assess the impact of the flood and contact the Ministry of Environment to seek the assistance of government for immediate intervention.”
