Prophetess in jail over failed spiritual deliverance
A self-acclaimed prophetess, Nnenna James has been arrested and remanded in prison custody at Kirikiri for allegedly defrauding a 31-year old woman, Theresa Johnson, in Lagos State, western Nigeria.
The victim, Theresa Johnson is now counting her losses after she was made to pay about N570,000 for spiritual deliverance by the Lagos based prophetess, Nnenna James.
Trouble started when deliverance prayer did not work as the prophetess promised. The victim then asked her to refund f her money but the prophetess refused.
The 38-year old prophetess, whose church is located along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, Lagos State, western Nigeria, was arraigned at the Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court for fraud and stealing under the Criminal Code.
Apart from allegedly defrauding Theresa to the tune of over half a million naira, the prophetess also collected Theresa’s gold necklace worth N50,000 from her.
It was gathered that the prophetess told her that before she could get a husband and bear a child, she will undergo deliverance so that she will be purified.
She asked her to pay the money and gave her time frame during which she will get a husband and bear her own child.
The prophetess also asked her to pay the money with which she would buy spiritual materials for the prayer.
When her desire to have a husband and child did not materialize as the prophetess promised, she demanded a refund. When the prophetess refused, she went to Idimu Police Division and reported the matter.
The prophetess was arrested and charged to court, where she pleaded not guilty.
The presiding magistrate, Mrs. M.B. Folami granted her bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
She was remanded in prison custody pending when she will perfect her bail condition.
The matter was adjourned till 16 July 2014.
