Manchester United completes signing of Guillermo Varela

Manchester United have completed the signing of Guillermo Varela on a five-year contract.

The Uruguayan right-back completed a two-week trial at Carrington in May and having impressed the club he has put pen to paper on a deal which will see him join Premier League champions.


“I’m very pleased to be a part of this club, one of the best teams in the world,” he said. “As everyone in the world knows, this is a huge club that has won everything and I really hope that continues.”

Varela will represent Uruguay at the Under-20 World Cup in Turkey later this month before returning to United to begin preparing for the new season.

“I’m very lucky there are quite a few Spanish-speakers here,” he added. “It will certainly help me settle in.”
