PDP wants Edo Council elections annuled

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has demanded the immediate cancellation of the Local Government elections in Edo state and the dissolution of the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (ESIEC) on the ground that the election conducted by the commission was marred by electoral malpractices.

Addressing a news conference in Abuja, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Olisa Metuh said the will of the people of Edo state to choose their leaders through the ballot box is being threatened by Governor Adams Oshiomhole and the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in the state.

Mr Metuh, who decried the alleged attack on members of the PDP in the state, however demanded the immediate release of the result of the election in Esan North West local government area. He added that the actions of ESIEC pose serious threat to the nation’s democracy.

He called on the military authorities to investigate the alleged role of the Brigade Commander in Benin in the use of the military against PDP members during the polls.

Mr. Metuh further alleged that ballot boxes were carted away, with election results manipulated in favour of the ACN.
