US Secretary of State, Hillary Clition to visit Nigeria in August

The United States of America’s Secretary of State, Mrs Hillary Clition, has been scheduled to visit Nigeria next month to discuss the US interest in partnering with the country, according to information exclusively gathered by the Nigerian Tribune.

Mrs Clinton, who is expected to be in Abuja between August 8 and10 2012, according to a source in the office of the Secretary of State, will meet with President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja to discuss a variety of issues of mutual interest, among which is the US administration interest in partnering with Nigeria, both domestically and regionally. She has also been scheduled to visit South Africa, Ghana and another East African country, as part of her last official visit to Africa.

According to information from the United States Department officials, the “US continues to support Nigeria’s domestic priorities and wants to align its assistance programmes and projects to Nigeria’s national priorities, especially in the areas of security and the Boko Haram issue.”

The Nigerian Ambassador to the US, Professor Adebowale Adefuye, who had held several meetings with the US government officials on the planned visit, will be on ground to receive the delegation.
