President Goodluck Jonathan Cannot Stop Boko Haram - PDP Chieftain

A chieftain of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Cross River State, Mr. Frank Effa, yesterday, said efforts by President Goodluck Jonathan to curtail the insecurity caused by activities of Boko Haram sect would not yield any result until some key Northern leaders accept to be part of the fight.

He also accused Northern elite of being behind activities of the terrorists, which had unleashed mayhem on the innocent Nigerians.

Speaking against the backdrop of the insecurity posed by activities of the terrorist group and Tuesday’s escape of one of its suspected member, Kabiru Sokoto, from police custody, Effa alleged that Northern elite knew members of the Islamic sect.

Though he didn’t mention names, he alleged that Northerners were silent on activities of Boko Haram, because they want to use it to negotiate for the introduction of amnesty programme for the region. He said:

“The people in the North cannot pretend that they do not know who the Boko Haram members are. They live among them and as such they know them. As long as it serves a purpose, it would continue being there.

“The President can do nothing about it until the people in the north themselves decide to do something about. If you see the way it is going, there are different demands at different times. I think what is bothering the Northerners is that they want to get something like the amnesty programme, that is what they are angling for.”
