27-Year-Old Woman Arraigned For Beating Up Ex-Husband In Abuja!

The police on Tuesday arraigned a 27-year old woman, Salmat Lawal, before an Abuja Senior Magistrate Court for assaulting her former husband.

Lawal, who lives in Galadimawa village, Airport Road, Abuja, was alleged to have committed the offence on December 29, 2011. The Police Prosecutor, Jeremiah Elijah, told the court that the crime was reported by Ismail Olatunde, the woman's former husband.

Elijah said the accused, along with four others now at large, went to Olatunde's house with the intention of packing her belongings from the house. He added that while the accused was in the house, a misunderstanding ensued which resulted in a fight, with the man suffering injuries on his left hand and body.

The prosecutor also said that when the case was investigated, the accused could not give a satisfactory account of her deed. He told the court that the offence of joint act, criminal force and assault as well as causing hurt contravened Sections 79, 265 and 246 of the Penal Code.

However, when the case came up for mention, the accused pleaded not guilty and was granted bail by Senior Magistrate Aliyu Shafa conditioned upon the payment of the sum of N50,000 and the guarantee of a surety in like sum.

Shafa ordered that the surety must reside within the jurisdiction of the court and adjourned the case to January 11 for hearing.
