INEC Gives 28.5 Million Naira To Families Of Election Violence Victims

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Thursday, doled out N28.5 million to the families of 42 victims who lost their lives in the post-election violence in some parts of the northern Nigeria.

Each family received a sum of N655,000 and were presented with the cheques in Abuja, on Thursday, by the chairman of the commission, Professor Attahiru Jega.

The INEC boss, who commiserated with the families of the deceased, said the commission, in the process of preparations for the April 2011 elections, had to rely on ad hoc staff and thus recruited them from among the serving National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) members, as well as students of higher institutions.
