Akwa Ibom Local Governments Election Postponed Till Next Year

The local government election fixed by Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission, AKISIEC, for December 29 has been postponed to hold in the first quarter of next year.

Governor Godswill Akpabio said this, Wednesday, during a meeting with members of the State Executive Committee of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, chapter chairmen, House of Assembly members, commissioners and special advisers, local government transition committee chairmen and other stakeholders of the party at the state PDP secretariat.

It was the first of such meeting since the inauguration of the administration for a second term. Akpabio, who was represented by his depu-ty, Mr. Nsima Ekere, said AKISIEC had informed the state government that the December 29 election date was no longer possible following a strong case made by various political parties for an extension of time.
